Amazon’s Virtual Summit: What To Expect at AWS 2020

AWS Summit Online is on Wednesday 13 May 2020, a free virtual event to “educate you about the skills needed to design, deploy, and operate your infrastructure and applications” as Amazon would describe.

Due to the current situation with Coronavirus or COVID-19 as some would call, Amazon is unable to host their usual Sydney Summit in the International Convention Centre.

But none the less, the show must go on. Heres what to expect.

Keynote, and Customer Speakers

Kicking off the keynote at 9:30AM will be Amazons finest Chief Technology Officer of Amazon.com Dr. Werner Vogels, Chief Executive Officer of Amazon Web Services Andy Jassy, and Vice President of AWS WW Sales and Marketing Matt Garman.

We should expect a highlight on new features available to Amazon Web Services customers and updates on their current beta software.

Mark Fitzgibbon, the Managing Director of nib Group, and Ricky Chen, Chief Technology Officer and Director Engineering at Prospection are the two major customer speakers we’re expecting at AWS Summit. We expect this to be a “journey” story of how they got into using Amazon Web Services and how they’re using AWS today.

Educational Breakout Sessions

Amazon is offering more than 50 breakout sessions with live chat. These have been broken into a handful of categories; Transform, Analyse, Build, Operate, Secure, Interact, AWSome Day, Builder’s Zone Demo, and Hands on Labs, with opportunities for both new comers and advanced users to jump on board and learn something new.

AWS DeepRace League

They call it the world’s first global autonomous racing league, driven by reinforcement learning. There are prizes and the chance to compete for the AWS DeepRacer Championship Cup. Thats a race been done with a trained machine learning model. Cool, right?

This May the virtual circuit will be a replica of the official F1 Spanish Grand Prix track, Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya. Developers will face off against F1 professionals including the current world record holder for this circuit, Daniel Ricciardo.

The Top 40 from Time Trial and Head to Head are eligible to receive prizes in the amount of USD $399.99.

But if your’e lucky to be in 1st – 8th place you are eligible to advance to compete in the 2020 AWS DeepRacer Championship Cup.

You can register for the AWS Summit here or the AWS DeepRace league via the AWS Console here
